When you apply for a mortgage and are applying for a self-employed mortgage as a sole trader, you will often be asked for copies of your SA302s and Tax Year Overviews.  These documents are used to prove your income.  You can download SA302s and Tax Year Overviews by following the steps below.

What is an SA302?

An SA302 form is issued by HMRC to those who file a paper tax return before 31st October following the end of the tax year. The form shows your income for the year as well as how much tax you owe.  However, if your tax return has been filed online, you may not have an SA302 form and may need to request one from HMRC.

What is a Tax Year Overview?

A Tax Year Overview is a form produced by HMRC which shows the amount of tax due to be paid.

Get copies of your SA302s and Tax Year Overviews

There are a number of ways that you can get copies of your SA302s and Tax Year Overviews.  If you have an accountant then they are likely to have copies on file which they can send to you.  They should also be able to download and email copies to you if needed.

Alternatively, you can call HMRC to order copies.  The HMRC Self Assessment helpline number is 0300 200 3300. Their lines can be busy, so try to ensure you have as much information ready for them as possible, especially your Unique Tax Reference (UTR): (a 10 digit unique individual tax code to you) and National Insurance number where possible.

However, the quickest way to obtain them is to go to the HMRC website and download them.
